Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin, for the fantastic person you are…
It isn't enough to call you just a hero, a celebrity or even a star
We, as a nation, have shared your fame and basked in your glory
Every achievement of yours has been a part of our proud story
Each time we have watched you play, in person or on the screen
You've revisited our hearts where you have already always been
Your calm composure has melted away our strains and stress so often
Watching your runs and wickets, fifties and centuries, fours and sixes, some of the pain could be forgotten
Never heard or saw you say or do anything untoward
For one and all you have been an exemplar by being so humble and leading from forward
Sincere and honest, you've been a true ambassador of the country and the game
You have rightfully earned so much more than any deserving name
Where we'd find such humble greatness again, we have no clue
Or how we'd be able to watch Cricket, hereafter, without the hope of you playing too
What you have so humbly taught us through your game, each and every time
Shall remain imbibed in us like a life line
Thank you for always being yourself, beginning to end
Thank you for setting this spirited and virtuous trend
As the next big thing-to-be awaits you
We wish you the best in all you do

Picking the Pieces

Here I am, at the confusing cross roads of life, once again
Doing nothing to mitigate my lingering pain
I have lost the drive to thrive
And I have lost the fervour to soar
As though my wings are severed and my spirit, caged
I seem to aspire for no more
My zest has died down and my temper, unraged
My best is no longer there…
I have searched for it everywhere
My pride is broken and my grounding, shaken
Just nothing seems to be left in me... all is taken
So how do I pick myself from the dust
And where do I go to regain my lost trust
A hand is all I need to emerge from this void hole
And perhaps a gentle nudge to reassure my cold soul
Both these should come from within me

So that I am solely responsible for whom I ought to be
